The property

Located in the Piedmont region, the estate extends over 120 hectares, notably in Barolo and La Morra, with marl-limestone soils. Today led by the Abbona family, the estate combines tradition and innovation, using ancestral and sustainable winemaking methods. Unique for its royal heritage and historic cellars, Marchesi di Barolo embodies Italian viticultural excellence.
The vineyard
This Riserva 1998 is made exclusively from vines located in the municipality of Barolo. The soils, particularly rich in clay and limestone, present a distinctive visual characteristic with their whitish appearance. This unique geological composition gives the grapes and the resulting wine a complex structure and a remarkable aging potential, essential elements for a great Barolo.
The vintage
The 1998 vintage stands out for its excellent climatic conditions that allowed for an earlier than average harvest. These favorable conditions gave birth to full-bodied and expressive wines, with a higher than average aging capacity. The exceptional climatic characteristics of this year have contributed to classifying 1998 among the great vintages of the Barolo appellation.
Vinification and aging
For this Barolo Riserva 1998, the grapes were destemmed and gently pressed before undergoing spontaneous fermentation at a controlled temperature between 30 and 32°C. After ten days, racking then natural malolactic fermentation, before the wine was transferred to large traditional barrels for its maturation.
