The history of the Sottimano estate begins in the late 1960s. With his diploma in oenology and eager to create his own wine, Rino Sottimano acquires his future family home with vineyards along with a cellar in Cottà, near Barbaresco, that lies in the heart of the Langhe hills in the Piedmont region of Italy.
The estate had only a few hectares in the beginning, but it gradually grew to include some of the most famous vineyard sites like Curra, Fausoni and Pajorè. Today, the Sottimano estate extends over an 18-hectare vineyard with Nebbiolo vines that have an average age of 40-years-old. Parcel wines from different plots in the vineyard express a great wealth of terroir.
Convinced that a great wine can only be made through working passionately and having a great respect for nature, Rino Sottimano has worked his vineyard since 1990 with a minimum amount of chemicals and fertilizers as to preserve the natural balance and the richness of the soil. Working with his wife Ana, and passing on his passion to his children, Andréa and Elena, Rino Sottimano has made Azienda Agricola Sottimano to be one of the finest examples of wines made in the Piedmont tradition. In 2010, his son who is also a winemaker joined the estate, and since then, the wines have really gained in quality through distinguishing themselves as wines with great precision, and whose depth of expression makes Sottimano wines a reference in the Barbaresco appellation.
