A wine from Barolo imbued with elegance and complexity

The property

Founded in the early 19th century by the Falletti family, Marchesi di Barolo transformed the winemaking of nebbiolo by creating a robust wine, thus establishing Barolo as the "wine of kings". Located in Piedmont, the property covers 120 hectares in the Langhe, with prestigious plots such as Cannubi. Today led by the Abbona family, it combines tradition and innovation, with a focus on sustainable practices. The historic cellars and the famous Botti della Marchesa testify to its rich heritage.

The vineyard

This Barolo comes from vineyards located in the commune of Barolo itself, on soils particularly rich in clay and limestone, recognizable by their whitish appearance. This unique geological composition gives the grapes a complex structure and a remarkable aging capacity, essential characteristics of great Barolo wines destined to cross the decades.

The vintage

The year 1988 was characteristic with a alternation of sunny and rainy days. The fall proved to be warm and dry, punctuated by occasional storms, allowing optimal ripening of the grapes. The harvest, carried out at the end of October, yielded perfectly ripe, healthy and sugar-rich berries, promising an exceptional vintage with intense aromas and elegant tannins.

Vinification and aging

For this Barolo Riserva 1988, the grapes were quickly transported to the winery, destemmed and gently pressed. Spontaneous fermentation took place at a controlled temperature between 30 and 32°C. After a first racking after 10 days, the completely dry wine underwent its malolactic fermentation during the winter before being transferred to large traditional barrels. Bottling was carried out during the summer of 1993. The cork was replaced in 2011 to ensure optimal preservation.
