Description

A complex and elegant brut champagne

The estate

The Deutz Champagne House was founded in 1838 in Aÿ by two Prussians, one of which was William Deutz. One was a wine merchant and the other sold champagne. The two founders were both equally involved in bottling, disgorging, dosage and labelling, even before they owned their own champagne and vineyards. Throughout the 20th century, the heirs of the founders gradually shaped the vineyard by buying plots in the best terroirs of the Champagne region. Today, the Deutz Champagne House is owned by the famous Roederer family. The great history of Deutz champagnes portrays a harmonious style between both virtuosity and refinement.

The blend

William Deutz 2002 comprises a blend of 62% Pinot Noir (Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Bouzy, Louvois, Ambonnay), 27% Chardonnay (Avize, Mesnil-sur-Oger and a few parcels in the Montagne de Reims) and 11% Pinot Meunier (Pierry and Chatillon-sur-Marne).

The tasting

Colour

The wine has a beautiful golden colour, with crystalline reflections. The effervescence is utterly fine.

Nose

Harmoniously blending finesse, aromatic richness and complexity, the nose reveals floral and fruity fragrances (pan-fried white peaches) with delicious notes of honey, spices and candied ginger.

Palate

A frank and precise attack gives way to an ample and refined palate. Balanced and delicate, the palate is seduced by its fruity (white cherries, vine peaches) and honeyed aromas. Silky and delicate, the finish is long and richly aromatic.

Food and wine pairing

Enjoy as an aperitif, William Deutz 2002 goes well with refined dishes such as caviar, fine fish (char, sea bass) grilled or served with a light sauce, pan-fried foie gras, white meats or sushi and Asian cuisine, particularly Peking Duck.
