Description
A luminous and rich Tuscan red wine
The estate
Since its creation in 1974, Querciabella has been producing fine Tuscan wines, all while paying the utmost attention to the terroir and traditions. This avant-garde and dedicated estate, located in the heart of the Chianti region to the south of Florence, is known as one of the pioneers in Italian organic and biodynamic farming.
The wine
Produced since 1974, Querciabella's Chianti Classico is made from a selection of vineyards located between 350 and 550 metres above sea level.
These vineyards are unique due to both their sun exposure and in their patchwork of soils (sandstone, sand, galestro, clay, slate, calcium carbonate and limestone), which give this Chianti red wine a unique signature style.
The vineyard has been managed in an organic manner since 1988 and has been using biodynamic farming methods since 2000.
The label was designed by the Italian painter, Bernardino Luino.
The vintage
The mild winter preceded a wet spring. Despite these weather conditions, the flowering and fruit set periods were even and very high quality, promising a great vintage. From the beginning of May onwards, the extreme heat did not cause any water stress thanks to the water reserves accumulated following the rainy spells throughout spring. The month of September was marked by day-time and night-time temperature variations, which were ideal and ensured the progressive and optimal ripening of the grapes.
The vinification and ageing
Hand-picked. Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels (10% new oak) with regular stirring of the lees.
The blend
This 2019 Querciabella is a 100% Sangiovese.
