Description
The refinement and power of a fine Tuscan red wine
The estate
Castello Banfi is a family-owned vineyard located in the heart of Tuscany. Respecting traditions and providing the vineyards with great care, the Banfi family are internationally renowned for their excellence in the production of fine Italian red wines. Banfi was one of the pioneers and carried out research into the cloning of the Sangiovese grape variety from 1982, with the aim of producing fine Brunello di Montalcino wines.
The vineyard
Produced since 1978, this Brunello di Montalcino by Castello Banfi is made from a vineyard located on the estate's hillsides. Depending on their position, the soils are composed of clayey sands or limestone.
The vintage
The first months of 2018 were marked by mild weather conditions and low rainfall. The gradual rise in temperatures from July to the second half of August favoured the rapid ripening of the grapes. The rain at the beginning of September was beneficial for the vineyard and limited water stress. The grapes were harvested under very good conditions and were of optimal quality.
The vinification and ageing
Fermentation is carried out in French oak and stainless steel tanks, followed by ageing in French oak barrels for at least two years.
The blend
Sangiovese (100%).
