Description

An exceptional case from Borgogno bringing together three great vintages of an illustrious Piedmont wine

The estate

Borgogno is a major name among Italian wines and is one of the oldest producers in Langa and Piedmont. Founded in 1761, the Borgogno estate has experienced significant international development since the 1920s, driven by Cesare Borgogno. The Farinetti family acquired the estate in 2008. Andrea Farinetti has been at the head of the estate since 2010.

The vineyard

Run in a sustainable fashion with no chemical inputs, the Borgogno estate’s vineyard is located in Piedmont, stretching across 30.8 hectares of vines planted on a soil made up of clay-limestone marls. This soil takes its part in the unique signature of the estate’s wines.

The wine

Liste Riserva from Domaine Borgogno is a Barolo wine from the estate's historic vineyard. The 6.75 hectare south/south-east facing terroir is placed at an altitude of 290-370 metres and is composed of clay-limestone marl and sand.

Marking a new page in the history of the estate, Caisse Liste Riserva Collection 2023 is an exceptional boxed set of three great vintages of this wine: 2009, 2012 and 2014.

Winemaking and ageing

After the harvest, the grapes are destemmed and crushed in the cellar. Spontaneous fermentation is carried out in steel tanks by indigenous yeasts for about 12 days at controlled temperatures (22-25°C at the beginning, 29-30°C at the end). 30 days of maceration in submerged tanks at a stable temperature of 26°C precede racking. Then, malolactic fermentation takes place and lasts about 15 days at 22°C. Finally, the wine rests for 4 years in oak barrels while awaiting further ageing in the bottle.

Blend

Nebbiolo (100%)

Characteristics and tasting tips for Caisse Liste Riserva Collection 2023 from Borgogno

All three wines are garnet coloured with orange highlights and each has its own personality. The Barolo Liste Riserva 2009 has a dense, spicy nose and an extremely smooth palate. The Barolo Liste Riserva 2012 develops a rare depth with scents of cherries and bay leaves. Finally, the 2014 Barolo Liste Riserva is fresh, with a sweet minty expression and a saline, iodised finish.
