Venetia is a wine growing region located in the North-East of Italy, between the Eastern Alps and the Adriatic Littoral. Its foothills offer an ideal environment for viticulture. Venetia is the birthplace of many known appellations such as Bardolino or Prosecco. It is the third wine growing region in Italy and counts for 25% of the global Italian production. It is also the second Italian wine growing region to possess the most DOCG - after Piedmont- and has a great range of indigenous grape varieties.

2004 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico from Veneto
The 2004 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico La Mattonara of Zymédisplays a ruby-tinted dark red colour. The wine is strong and impresses by its thick and scrumptious black fruit expression followed by black pepper notes. On swirling, the richness is fully released and is enhanced by light menthol freshness. The attack is soft, warm with a mid-palate born by an elegant tannic structure with a tight tannic grain. This strong wine is lingering on the palate and offers a real ageing potential.
Wine Advocate-Parker : The 2004 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is fabulous. Espresso, grilled herbs, leather, black pepper, wild cherries and licorice blossom on the palate as this layered, totally sublime Amarone conquers the palate. This is a mid-weight style of Amarone built on a core of elegance rather than sheer power. The 2004 is just a touch forward, which is the only thing that keeps the score from going higher. Based on the more recent wines I tasted, there seems to be no limit to what this estate can achieve. The Amarone is 30% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 30% Rondinella and 5% each Oseleta and Croatina. The wine was aged in a combination of French oak barrels and casks. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2019.

2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico from Veneto
Bertaniproduced a beautiful Amarone della Valpolicella Classico. The 2007 Amarone Bertani is a dark, rich almost black-tinted inky red wine. It is restrained on the nose but still gives off the density and complexity of black fruits with a chocolate note. The palate has character with a good acid backbone that competes with the richness of the alcohol. The wine remains balanced. The mid-palate is strong on a intense tannic structure. This Amarone is both powerful and elegant.
Wine Advocate-Parker : The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is an impressive wine built to last. Bertani does a great job of presenting the purity of the wine's fruit, its territory and its tradition. The Amarone is not overbuilt or too muscular. Instead, it walks with small, poised footsteps that carry it long and wide. The bouquet shows classic notes of dried fruit, toasted almond, resin, cola and grilled herb. I would not suggest serving this bottle for at least 24 months.

The 2006 Bosan of Gerardo Cesari in DOC Amarone della Valpolicella is a both subtle and strong wine. It displays an inky almost black-tinted very dense red colour with blue highlights. The aromatic expression is abundant and rich on macerated black fruit scents blended with spices, and a hint of blue cedar balsamic. This 2006 Bosan of Cesari attack is precise with clear acidity that brings freshness and straightforwardness to this wine. The well-extracted tannic structure is ample on a very spicy finish. The latter gives character and intensity to this already pleasant cuvee, with a real ageing potential.
Wine Advocate-Parker : Allegrini has crafted a wine of enormous power and opulence. The 2012 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is out-sized and decisively overdone. This wine will appeal to a hard-core group of Amarone enthusiasts who appreciate extra darkness, extract and intensity. You get all of that in this hot-vintage Amarone, and you also get a significant dose of oak spice (it ages in barrique for 18 months). In fact, those toasted tones of Christmas spice, clove and dark vanilla are what first emerge from the bouquet. And they emerge with force. The wine is super thick and dense. You could almost drink it with a spoon. I drank from the bottle 24 hours after opening it, and the wine was just as pristine and impactful as the day before. It remained virtually unchanged. The alcohol touches 16%.
