Description

A Generous and Powerful Red Blend from the Southern Rhône

Founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in the village of Ampuis, the E. Guigal Estate has for the past three generations been synonymous with excellence in the Côte-Rôtie appellation of Northern Rhône. In 1995, the Guigal family acquired the historical Château d'Ampuis on the banks of the Rhône River, which has since then become the headquarters for the estate. The winery, nevertheless, remains in the village of Ampuis, and is the scene for the production of beautiful wines from Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage, as well as from the estate's vineyards in the Southern Rhône. The Gigondas 2014 by E. Guigal is a blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and 15% Syrah from the Gigondas appellation of the Southern Rhone. Here, the vines - 40 years old, on average - grow in ancient alluvial soils with red clay and gravel on slopes. The winery team carries out a traditional winemaking with long maceration and the wine is matured in oak foudres, of which 50% is new.

The Gigondas 2014 by E. Guigal presents a beautifully deep purple colour in the glass. The nose reveals intense aromas, dominated by peach and apricot, as well as liquorice and earthy touches of undergrowth. This Southern Rhône GSM-blend offers a frank attack in the mouth. It is generous and powerful on the palate with a full body, soft tannic structure and a long, very elegant finish. The wine is made to age, evolving beautifully in the glass for up to 10 years.
