Description
A great vintage Champagne, fresh and indulgent
The estate
Founded in 1849, the Champagne Pol Roger House has upheld the excellence of its expertise and its relentless quest for perfection for 5 generations. A benchmark far beyond its borders, Maison Pol Roger is the official supplier to the British Crown as well as to the finest Michelin-starred tables.
One of the last houses to still riddle its Champagne bottles by hand across its entire production, Pol Roger’s singularity lies in a style that authentically expresses the full potential of exceptional Champagne terroirs.
The vineyard
Maison Pol Roger oversees an exceptional Champagne vineyard spanning 92 hectares, notably including the finest plots on the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs.
Winemaking and aging
Delicate pressing is carried out after harvest. A first settling takes place at the pressing center, followed by a second cold settling (6°C) in the estate’s vat room for 24 hours. Alcoholic fermentation at low temperature (18°C) in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. Separate vinification by grape variety and by crus before the final blend. Malolactic fermentation. After blending and bottling, the prise de mousse and aging take place in the house’s historic cellars.
Produced in limited quantities, this 2016 vintage Champagne by Pol Roger benefits from 7 years of aging. Following disgorgement, an additional minimum aging of 3 months is carried out before release.
Blend
Pinot Noir (60%) and Chardonnay (40%) from 20 Grands and Premiers Crus of the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs.
Characteristics and tasting tips for Pol Roger’s Brut Vintage 2016
Tasting
Appearance
The pale gold color is adorned with silvery highlights. The effervescence is lively and elegant.
Nose
Expressive, the initial nose exudes fragrances of dried fruits, cocoa, almond, and coconut. As it aerates, the nose gains complexity with rich fruity notes (yellow fruits, mirabelle plum) and eau-de-vie.
Palate
Freshness defines the palate throughout the tasting. Dried fruits, citrus, lemon, and bitter orange are supported by delectable confectionery notes (orangette).
