A blend of Chardonnay (52%) and Pinot Noir (48%) from Premier et Grand Cru vine plots, the Cuvée Joséphine from Joseph Perrier displays the authenticity of great terroirs and the expertise of this prestigious and family-run Champagne house.
A vintage Champagne from the remarkable 2008 vintage, Joseph Perrier's Cuvée Joséphine is one of the emblematic Champagnes of the estate.
Fresh and smooth aromas dominate the bouquet, which seduces with its complexity, refinement and harmony. Fragrances of sweet spices follow the delicious dried fruit and candied fruit aromas, while buttered brioche notes echo a perfect maturity of the grapes in a Champagne patiently aged on lees and achieving a mineral freshness. On the palate, the Cuvée Joséphine 2008 by Joseph Perrier shows perfect balance. The notes perceived on the nose display plenty of personality, coating the palate with fruity flavours and a superb texture. This wine is vinous and mineral in structure with an elegant air of freshness. A rare Champagne that is one of the greats.
A blend of roughly equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the 2008 Brut Cuvée Josephine was disgorged after ten years sur lattes. Offering up a reserved bouquet of warm biscuits, dried citrus rind and yellow apple, it's medium to full-bodied, with a somewhat firm and compact profile, missing the plenitude that characterizes some of the house's more recent offerings. This is a creditable but somewhat conservative effort that seems to have more to do with the house's past than its future.
