Robert Parker

Yohan Castaing

The 2012 Brut Cuvée Joséphine constitutes only the 10th edition of this iconic cuvée, coming after 1982, 1985, 1989, 1990, 1995, 1998, 2002, 2004 and 2008. Composed of 52% Chardonnay and 48% Pinot Noir, it has an intense bouquet with aromas of orchard fruits, spring flowers, warm biscuits, lemon oil and mint, as well as smoky hints. Very delicate and pure, moderately weighted and perfectly balanced, the palate shows remarkable tension and finesse on the finish. This Champagne is approachable now but also built to evolve with grace over the next three to four years.

La RVF

A certain aromatic finesse with good depth. The graceful side is more pronounced; it’s quite elegant in terms of texture, with a more slender palate and a better-integrated mousse. It’s clearly a finer juice, but the dosage is a bit strong for my taste at the moment. It will come together with a bit more time in bottle.

Le Figaro Vin

An aquiline nose, lovely and tangy with fresh rhubarb, featuring floral aromas of iris and acacia. The palate is feline: lively, highly refined, smooth and charming, with notes of roasted pineapple. All the ingredients of a great champagne, including a long finish.

The traditional luxury cuvée from this producer, this shows new depth and richness in its latest incarnation. The spice, lingering touches of white fruits and minerality are just right. Drink now.

Description

The richness and minerality of an exceptional champagne revealed by Joseph Perrier

The estate

Under the shade of its 3 kilometres of underground galleries of Gallo-Roman origin, the high-quality Joseph Perrier Champagne House perpetuates a know-how and a respect for tradition which has been transmitted from generation to generation. Each plot is vinified separately so that each terroir’s identity can be expressed with bespoke ageing processes.

The wine

Joséphine de Joseph Perrier, an exceptional cuvée produced only during outstanding years, was borne from a father’s wish to offer a champagne made from the finest blend for his daughter’s wedding. Dressed in a magnificent, hand-painted bottle and decorated in fine gold, the 2012 Joséphine de Joseph Perrier is the product of a selection of Premier and Grand Crus from Champagne (Ambonnay, Cumières, Bergères-lès-Vertus). The harvest is from 2012 and the dosage is 5gr/litre.

Blend

The 2012 Joséphine de Joseph Perrier is made from a blend of Chardonnay (55%) and Pinot Noir (45%).

Tasting

Colour

The wine is a beautiful golden colour. Effervescence is fine and delicate.

Nose

The nose, which perfectly brings together fineness and complexity, seduces with its fragrances of shelled nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts, bitter almonds), iris flowers and acacia. Aeration gives this champagne its complexity, which is marked by notes of vanilla and spices.

Palate

The palate is the perfect expression of grape varieties of which the blend is composed. Over the course of tasting, the very elegant palate reveals delicious aromas of prunes, grapes and flowers.

Pairings

The 2012 Joséphine de Joseph Perrier is the ideal companion for a fresh dish (Saint Jacques carpaccio), fish (sea bass) and even game.

Serving

For an optimal tasting, it is advised that this champagne be cooled in an ice bucket for about twenty minutes before being served. To be enjoyed at around 10°C.
