Génération XIX 2013 from Alphonse Mellot : a noble Sancerre wine with a saline finish
A single-varietal Sauvignon Blanc white wine produced in the Sancerre appellation, the Generation XIX of Alphonse Mellot is a cuvée from vines aged almost 100 years on average, and cultivated through organic farming and biodynamic practices. The 2.5-hectare vineyard is planted on soils composed of Kimmeridgian limestones and marls. The Generation XIX Alphonse Mellot is aged in a truncated wooden tank on fine lees for 10 to 12 months on average, depending on the vintage, before being finished en mass for at least 4 months.
At tasting, the Génération XIX 2013 of Alphonse Mellot displays a brilliant pale gold colour. Pretty complex, the nose reveals fragrances of honey, lemon and dried fruits. On the palate, the wine shows amplitude, freshness and richness, then revealing a finish of great salinity.
