Local archives dating to the 16th Century mention the Mellot family as recognized wine makers and merchants. This record is supported, as in 1698 King Louis XIV chose César Mellot as his wine consultant. At the beginning of the 19th Century, Alphonse Mellot created the family House in Sancerre, which will continue to grow and be passed from father to sons, the eldest of whom receives the traditional name of Alphonse. Their wines are produced from the best Sancerre plots, with calcareous soils, ideal for growing the noble Sauvignon Blanc. Thanks to its finesse, rich bouquet and quality fruit, Sancerre holds a prominent place in the hierarchy of white wines.
