Description
A well-balanced and lively fine Burgundy wine by Olivier Leflaive
The producer
Established in Puligny-Montrachet since 1635, the Leflaive family has successfully perpetuated the tradition of great Burgundy wines by offering one of the finest expressions of Chardonnay in the world. At the head of an essential Burgundian estate, Olivier Leflaive has established himself as an iconic figure of the Côte de Beaune. Olivier Leflaive was born in 1945, when his family owned a 20-hectare vineyard. After taking over the family business, the Leflaive estate, Oliver Leflaive founded Olivier Leflaive Frères in 1985, his own winemaking and ageing company, marking the birth of an "Haute-Couture" Burgundian wine merchant.
The vineyard
Patiently built up, the estate's vineyard now covers 17 hectares of vines located in the Burgundy region's greatest terroirs. The house also buys grapes from the Côte de Beaune’s best winegrowers. In total, Olivier Leflaive has 120 hectares of vines, producing fine white wines in the beautiful appellations of Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault, as well as in Chablis and the Côte Chalonnaise.
Meursault Village "Meix Chavaux" Domaine 2018 stems from a 10-hectare production area grown in an organic manner (non-certified) and located between 240 and 260 meters above sea level around the village of Meursault. The north-facing, fairly stony clay-limestone terroir is home to vines planted in 1991.
The wine
The name of this wine by Domaine Olivier Leflaive, Meursault Village "Meix Chavaux" Domaine 2018, has a particular meaning and tells the story of its terroir. "Meix" refers to a plot of land around the house and "chavaux" means the valley that is located upstream from the river.
The vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand and delicately pressed with pneumatic presses before being vinified. All the grapes are crushed and the wine is fined and filtered. The wine is aged for 17 months (including 5 months following the blending of the different batches) in barrels, 22% of which are new.
