A Super Tuscan from a spectacular vintage

Grattamacco Bolgheri Superiore comes from one of the only two hills in Bolgheri. The vineyards are at 100 meters above sea level on a predominantly clay-limestone soil rich in sandstone and limestone marl. Grattamacco is one of the most famous Super Tuscans. These wines revolutionized Tuscan viticulture from the 1970s with blends consisting of Sangiovese, a local grape variety and the King of Chianti, and international grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

The 2015 Grattamacco Bolgheri Superiore promises to be one of the finest vintages from the estate. It spent 21 months in barrels before bottling in December 2017. 2015 is indeed a spectacular vintage for the region.

The Grattamacco 2015 is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 15% Sangiovese. It has a superb maturity that is the source of its generous aromas and flavours. The intense nose has an aromatic bouquet of small red fruit. The palate is voluminous, yet balanced with freshness and mineral notes. The supple mouthfeel is further enhanced with fine tannins. The long finish hints that it has a long cellaring potential!
