Description
A powerful and aromatic Chablis Grand Cru by Domaine Laroche
The estate
An essential reference in Chablis, Burgundy, Domaine Laroche stands out due to its unique historical heritage, which dates back to the 9th century. Comprising 90 hectares of land, Domaine Laroche’s vineyard, managed using agroecological viticulture, is composed exclusively of Premiers Crus and Grands Crus. Domaine Laroche has been part of the Advini group since 2009 and is renowned for the precision, elegance and aromatic richness of its wines, which authentically express the subtle Chablis climats.
The wine
"Les Bouguerots" 2018 by Domaine Laroche is a Chablis wine that stems from a 31-acre parcel that enjoys an ideal southwestern exposure on a limestone-rich hillside on the banks of the Serein river. This Grand Cru has the most western climat in Chablis, comprising a 30-centimetre layer of clay at the bottom of the hillside which guarantees sufficient water reserves during the hot summer months. Planted from a massal selection of the estate's historical vines, this vineyard produces limited yields and wines.
The vintage
The mildness of autumn and winter favoured the rapid development of the vines. The summer, marked by dry conditions and high temperatures, allowed for an early 8-day veraison period compared to last year.
Vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes are rigorously sorted upon arrival at the winery. Following whole bunch pressing, the must rests for 12 hours in large vats to accelerate natural sedimentation. Fermentation is carried out in 1 to 7-year-old barrels, as is the ageing period that lasts approximately 9 months. After blending, additional ageing on fine lees is carried out for 6 months.
The blend
Chardonnay (100%).
