The estate

Maine and Jean-Marie Guffens-Heynen, who have been based in the Mâconnais since 1976, created the Domaine Guffens-Heynen in 1979 after acquiring several plots of vines in the hills at Pierreclos. This couple, originally from Flanders, learned growing and winemaking and then acquired Château Les Tourettes in 1997, on the Apt plateau in the Rhône Valley, as well as the Verget wine business.

Passionate winemakers, they strive to use their talent and enthusiasm to achieve excellence in producing great Burgundy wines.

The vineyard

The Deuxième Vendange de Chavigne 2021 from Domaine Guffens-Heynen is a Mâcon-Pierreclos wine from the Pierreclos hills.

The vintage

2021 was marked by extremely challenging weather conditions. The mild winter followed by warmth at the end of February set off an early vine budburst on practically all the plots. The mid-April frosts were devastating. The vines placed high up at Vergisson and at Pierreclos were severely impacted by the frost, and the Saint-Véran vines, which were spared, were then hit by hail shortly afterwards. Fortunately, the weather conditions were better during the harvests. Despite very low yields, at least 60% smaller than the average, the late harvests ensured an optimal ripeness, giving the wines a great freshness.

The wine

The Deuxième Vendange de Chavigne owes its name to the exceptional harvest conditions of this vintage. In fact, the Pierreclos vines, planted on the Chavigne soil, were harvested in two goes. Firstly the lower vines, which made up all of the "En Crazy" wine. The hilltop plots were harvested next for a surprising result, given the challenges of this vintage in Burgundy.
