Robert Parker

The current NV Ultra Brut is a blend of 52% Chardonnay and 48% Pinot Noir based on the 2007 vintage; it includes—as always—a reserve of the former Ultra Brut vintage, in this case 2004. In fact, Ultra Brut is produced only every three years on average, and the 2007 base is only the twelfth cuvée since the (1976), which was released in 1989. It is citrus-colored with some very nice white-golden reflections. Bright and fresh on the intensely brioche-scented nose, this vibrant, round and mouth-filling Champagne reveals a persistent mineral complexity and structure, along with very elegant, refreshing citrus fruit.

Decanter

rich colour, almost luminous, then an oaky nose, with hints of oatmeal and baking spice. Hints of melon as well as citrus on the mid-weight palate.

Vinous

(55% Chardonnay and 45% Pinot Noir; no dosage; L53PA113356): Pale yellow. Racy, mineral- and ginger-tinged citrus and orchard fruits on the nose, with a subtle floral nuance adding complexity. On the palate, dry, incisive lime and green apple flavors show an intense, stony character and a touch of smokiness. Becomes fleshier with air and finishes spicy and long, with building citrus fruit character and very good focus.

Falstaff

Falstaff

Light golden yellow, silver reflections, fine mousse. Delicately smoky-tobacco background of fine yellow tropical fruit, herbal-spicy nuances, some honey blossom, blood orange zest. Medium body, some cookie and white pears, fine acidity, mineral-vinous finish, lemony aftertaste.

Pale straw colour with a green tinge. Youthful nose with hints of stone fruits, almonds and citrus; the palate is bone-dry and nicely firm, with elegant fruit and nutty notes, well structured with a rounded creaminess and a long, fresh finish.

The Wine Independent

Sarah Mayo

Based on the 2016 vintage with 20% reserve wines, the Ultra Brut NV is 55% Chardonnay and 45% Pinot Noir, aged six years on fine lees and finished with zero dosage. In the glass, it shows a very pale gold color with subtle aromas of ripe citrus peel, yuzu, lemon cream biscuits, and chalk. The light-bodied, textured palate opens to a fine, pinpoint mousse imbued with vivacious acidity, bright salinity, and lemon freshness that carries through the long finish.

La RVF

A broader palette than the BSA, with a Chardonnay-dominant profile. The nose is appealing and shows beautiful grape ripeness. This cuvée has the merit of expressing lovely fruit and a chalky character. The palate is broad and generous, with a lively mousse and decent length.

Wine Enthusiast

Michael Schachner

This no-dosage sparkler is immensely crisp and appley, with aromas of mint and licorice. If you're not expecting an austere, dry style, the green apple and lemon flavors might seem sour. It's 100% tangy and sharp, but it's precise for what it is. Not a cocktail party wine, but something like sushi will help it along.

Description

A pure champagne

The producer

Founded in 1812, the Laurent-Perrier Champagne House reached its golden age in 1948, thanks to Bernard de Nonancourt’s dynamism. Under the leadership of this visionary businessman, the house stood out by producing vintages that reflected its values of excellence and innovation.

Since its very beginnings, the house has built its identity around Chardonnay. Through the freshness and finesse that it brings to the blend, this grape variety is the hallmark of this Champagne reference.

Laurent-Perrier's avant-garde approach is reflected in its Grand Siècle and its multi-vintage blends, its Ultra Brut with its "zero dosage" style, and Cuvée Rosé, the first rosé champagne in this category. These original "breakthrough" cuvées, each creation being subject to an event, mark a new page in the history of Laurent-Perrier and its quest for excellence, for which it is internationally renowned.

The quintessence of Bernard de Nonancourt’s cherished values are in the Laurent-Perrier cuvées, unanimously recognised by connoisseurs.

The vineyard

Located in the picturesque village of Tours-sur-Marnes, the Laurent-Perrier House has its own high-quality vineyards, supplemented by long-term contracts with winegrowers in the best terroirs of the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs.

The wine

In 1981, the Laurent-Perrier Champagne House introduced the "zero dosage" style, with the famous Ultra Brut cuvée, and is made exclusively from years selected by the Laurent-Perrier team which express the perfect balance between maturity and acidity.

The blend

Ultra Brut by Laurent-Perrier is made from a rigorous selection of grapes whose, potentially, higher alcohol content and low acidity enable the House to achieve the desired balance, without the addition of sugar.

Ultra Brut by Laurent-Perrier comprises a blend of Chardonnay (55%) and Pinot Noir (45%) to which 1 or 2 reserve wines, from a complementary year, are added. Benefiting from ageing in a cellar for a minimum of 6 years, more than 15 crus are used in the making of this wine.

The tasting

Colour

The colour is clear and crystalline.

Nose

Service tips

For an optimal tasting experience, serve between 8 and 10°C.

Food and wine pairing

Laurent-Perrier Ultra Brut will perfectly complement seafood, sushi, white fish ceviche, young parmesan cheese or pata negra ham.
