Description
Tasting notes and characteristics of Serpaia's Fumaterra Sangiovese 2022
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a vibrant ruby-red hue, enhanced by lighter highlights along the rim.
Nose
The nose unveils a fruit-driven aromatic profile, releasing scents of crisp cherry harmoniously underscored by notes of fresh thyme and white pepper.
Palate
On the palate, the wine proves agile and offers lovely fluidity. It displays a balanced structure, supported by refreshing acidity and well-integrated tannins that accompany the tasting without masking the brightness of the fruit.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs ideally with spicy vegetarian dishes, pizzas or pasta served with a meat-based sauce such as Bolognese. It also wonderfully complements roasted or grilled meats (beef, lamb, game) as well as hard cheeses such as Tuscan pecorino.
Serving and ageing
Thanks to its tannic structure and acidity, the Fumaterra Sangiovese 2022 is a wine built for a long evolution in the bottle.
The authentic expression of a Maremma Toscana wine
The estate
Originally founded in 1885 in Trentino, the Endrizzi family winery extended its expertise to Tuscany with the creation of the Serpaia estate in 1999. Set in the heart of unspoilt natural surroundings, the property is now run by Paolo and Christine Endrici, together with their children Lisa Maria and Daniele. Driven by a philosophy combining Italian tradition and innovation, the family is committed to producing Tuscan wines that faithfully reflect their adopted terroir, while applying sustainable and environmentally respectful viticultural principles.
The vineyard
Located in Magliano, south of Grosseto, the vineyard benefits from the sun-drenched hills of Maremma Toscana, which gently slope down towards the Tyrrhenian Sea. The vines, trained using the Guyot method, thrive on sandy soils rich in clay, minerals and limestone elements. This terroir enjoys a warm, dry Mediterranean climate, ideally tempered by refreshing sea breezes. The estate practises integrated and eco-sustainable farming, with no use of synthetic chemicals whatsoever.
Winemaking and ageing
The making of the Fumaterra Sangiovese 2022 relies on a shortened skin maceration during fermentation in order to preserve the brightness of the fruit. Ageing is then carried out by combining the use of large oak casks (demi-muids) and smaller barrels. This method allows the oak influence to be balanced without masking the identity of the grape variety or the characteristics of this Italian terroir.
Grape variety
100% Sangiovese.
