Description

A refined Douro wine with an intense aromatic expression by Ramos Pinto

The estate

In 1880, the Ramos House was founded by Adriano Ramos Pinto. Driven by the will to produce fine Portuguese wines, Ramos Pinto instilled a strict quality strategy from the very beginning, from the vineyard to the cellar. To achieve his goal, he relies on an exceptional terroir by investing in the Douro Valley’s finest vineyards, located in the Duriense region in north-west Portugal. While each vineyard has its own distinctive features, they all contribute to the definition of Ramos Pinto's elegant, fruity and complex style.

The vineyard

This Ramos Pinto Duas Quintas Reserva 2018 wine stems from a rare and exceptional vineyard in the upper part of the Douro Valley. The grapes for this wine stem from selected plots, situated around the Ervamoira and Bon Ares estates, owned by the Ramos House. Between 200 and 600 metres above sea level, the schist and granite influenced soils provide for and nourish the vines.

The vintage

The year 2018 began with a particularly cold winter. The vegetative cycle was delayed due to the heavy rainfall and cool weather experienced during spring until the end of July. The warm, dry conditions during the months of August and September enabled the grapes to reach optimum ripeness. The harvested grapes produce an elegant, expressive and fresh wine.

The vinification and ageing

Manual harvesting in small crates to preserve the integrity of the fruit. Depending on the plot, the grapes are vinified in granite presses or in concrete and wooden vats. Following the pressing process, malolactic fermentation is carried out in 6,000 to 10,000 litre tuns. The wine is aged for 18 months in barrels (50%), in new French oak barrels (20%) or one-year-old barrels (30%).

The blend

Touriga Nacional (73%), Touriga Francesa (17%) and Tinta da Barca (10%).
