Ramos Pinto : 30 Year Old Tawny

The 30-Year Old Tawny has a mellow bouquet of kirsch, cloves, melted candle wax and Moroccan spice. The palate is smooth and viscous on the entry with notes of dried honey, white pepper, white fennel and a touch of menthol. There is a slight medicinal slant to this 30-Year Old Tawny, but it shows fine cohesion and sensuality towards the warm, inviting finish. Tasted May 2013.

Fabulous finish and plenty of walnut and toffee character. Full-bodied and incredibly sweet, offering a burnt orange, nut flavor. Delicious old wine. 1,000 cases made.

RS 119 g/l. A little darker and more brown than the Sandeman 30 Year Old, with a tawny rim. Dark tawny, more like burnt umber. Nutty, savoury mushroom character. More tannic and more of that walnut and burnt orange flavour. Intense and sweet on the palate but finishes drier than it seems from the stated RS level, with a silky texture. Very long and complex on the finish. (JH)

Dark core within an otherwise dark beige color. Full, very concentrated nose with plenty of dried fruit and rich marzipan. Full, deep palate with well-supporting acidity and appealing sweetness. Full, long finish. Best enjoyed up to a maximum of ten years after the bottling date.
