Set in an enchanting landscape that epitomises the charm of Tuscany, Tenuta Mocenni is surrounded by vineyards in the commune of Vagliagli, north of Siena. Before it became a well-known vineyard in the region, traces dating back to 1067 testify to the presence of an ancient defensive fort protecting the adjacent town of Siena. A few centuries later, the defensive role of the site disappeared and a mill was built, giving the estate its present-day name of "Mocenni." Tenuta Mocenni now belongs to the Bindi Sergardi family. With origins dating back to 1349, this Italian family has been producing wine for almost 23 generations.
Tenuta Mocenni enjoys an exceptional location, in the historic heart of the Chianti Classico appellation, following the demarcation of the area by Cosimo III de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany from 1670 to 1723. The 70-hectare vineyard is planted on galestreux and albrese soils. These soils are made up of clay schists and sedimentary rocks similar to limestone. This terroir is ideal for Sangiovese vines, the emblematic grape variety of Chianti Classico, which accounts for most of the vineyard's grape varieties.
Dedicated to wine and the land, the Bindi Sergardi family is now part of the Chianti Classico Consortium. The preservation of the Tuscan landscape and an agriculture that respects the vines are at the heart of the philosophy advocated by Tenuta Mocenni. With this in mind, the planting of flora endemic to Tuscany, the reduction of chemical treatments to the vines and a recycling policy have all been put in place.
Produced in the Chianti Classico DOCG appellation, the Bindi Sergadi family wines made at Tenuta Mocenni illustrate all the typical characteristics of Sangiovese, with power and elegance.
