Description
A complex and round Beaune 1er Cru
The estate
Founded in 1797, Domaine Louis Latour is currently run by the family’s 11th generation and is headed by Louis-Fabrice Latour. As a wine merchant and grower, Louis Latour owns the largest estate of Grands Crus in Burgundy.
The vineyard
Comprising 48 hectares of vines, 27 hectares of which are Grand Crus, the Louis Latour estate is the largest owner of Grand Crus in Burgundy. Although the village of Aloxe-Corton is the family’s home, the Louis Latour estate has gradually spread across the most beautiful Burgundian appellations, such as the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune.
The wine
The name of this Beaune Premier Cru "Vignes Franches" wine refers to the time when the former owners of this plot did not pay royalties to the Lord. The "Vignes Franches" parcel is located on a mid-slope and lies on very fine gravelly soil which allows the water infiltration to drain away.
Vinification and ageing
The vinification process is carried out in a traditional manner in open-top vats with 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels, 25% of which are new and stem from Louis Latour’s cooperage.
The blend
Pinot Noir (100%).
