The estate

Owned by the Merlaut family since 2005, Château de Camensac is a property built in the 18th century in the Haut-Médoc, on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. This 5th Grand Cru Classé in 1855 has undergone major investments, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, to equip the estate with befitting tools. Château de Camensac now stands out as an essential name among the great wines of Bordeaux’s Left Bank.

The vineyard

An unmissable reference among Haut-Médoc wines, the Château de Camensac vineyard stretches across 86 hectares planted on two different types of soil: the Günzian gravel found in Saint-Julien and the Villefranchian gravel found in Pessac-Léognan. It is these two types of soil that provide the uniqueness of the estate’s wines.

The vintage

The winter of 2021 was characterised by heavy rainfall and mild temperatures. Spring opened with a month of high temperatures in March, which set the vines on an early cycle. In April, frost hit the vineyard and a wet flowering period followed, which was more favourable to Cabernet Sauvignon than to Merlot. The summer was normal for the season, and then the rain returned at the time of the harvest, which was carried out at perfect ripeness from 28 September to 6 October for the Merlot and from 6 to 13 October for the Cabernet Sauvignon.

Colour
The wine is shining and light-filled.

Nose
Opening with intense scents of blackcurrant flower, the nose unveils over the course of aeration subtle notes of red rose.

Palate
A frank and precise attack gives way to a palate with delicate tannins and slightly vanilla scents of strawberry that draw out to a delectable, lingering finish.
