The elegance of a great single-plot champagne by Pierre Moncuit
The estate
Founded in 1889, the Pierre Moncuit House is a family-run estate located in the heart of Champagne, in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. The domain extends over a 19-hectare vineyard exclusively dedicated to Chardonnay. Today, the estate is run by the family trio of Nicole, Valérie and Yves Moncuit. Committed to sustainable viticulture certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE), this independent brand stands out for its determination to express the purity of its terroir through precise single-plot vinifications.
The vineyard
The grapes used for this cuvée come exclusively from the famous Les Chétillons lieu-dit, located in the Grand Cru classified village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, in Champagne. This exceptional terroir is made up of very old vines, around ninety years of age. The estate carries out a rigorous massal selection there in order to preserve the unique genetic heritage of this historic plot, all managed according to the principles of sustainable viticulture.
The vintage
The 2008 vintage was marked by overall cool weather conditions accompanied by moderate sunshine. A particularly fine late season then allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness while preserving a pronounced acidity, making this harvest one of the greatest of recent years.
Winemaking and aging
The making of the "Cuvée Nicole" Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru Extra Brut 2008 is characterised by a vinification carried out exclusively in stainless steel tanks, with no use of reserve wines. The wine then benefits from an exceptionally long aging, resting for fifteen years on its lees in the estate's cellars before disgorgement.
Grape variety
This cuvée is made from 100% Chardonnay.
