The Cuvée Grand Siècle of the Laurent-Perrier House is a prestigious champagne wine, not only due to its bottle inspired by glass master of the 17th Century but as well to its content, an elegant and refined champagne. Made from 45% Pinot Noir and 55% Chardonnay from 10 of the most prestigious growths of Champagne, this is a blend of the greatest vintages produced by Laurent-Perrier. Its dress is of a bright yellow glod enhanced by a fine effervescence. The nose is intense and complex, marked by slightly candied citrus, toasted almonds and gingerbread. On the palate is is savory, of a good volume yet very aerial. The Cuvée Grand Siècle offers a perfect balance between strength and delicacy, thus radiating as much as Louis the 14th did: this wine indeed pays tribute to him.

A blend of the 2004, 2002 and 1999 vintages, the NV Brut Grand Siècle #22 is about to be released in magnum, and it will be well worth seeking out, as this is a complex, gastronomic Champagne at the peak of its powers. Wafting from the glass with aromas of delicately honeyed peaches, woodsmoke, iodine and musk, the wine is full-bodied, broad and concentrated, with considerable savory complexity to complement its maturating fruit tones, a delicate mousse, chalky structuring dry extract and a sapid, mouthwatering finish.
