Description

Tasting Characteristics and Notes for Villa Antinori Riserva 2023

Tasting Notes

Appearance
This Italian wine reveals an intense ruby colour, enhanced by delicate purple hues.

Nose
Deeply expressive, the aromatic bouquet reveals notes of ripe red cherries and blackberries, interwoven with hints of mint, leather, and warm spices. These are rounded out by subtle touches of chocolate, smoke, and elegant oak.

Palate
The attack is rich and enveloping, leading into a beautifully balanced palate. The texture is built on finely crafted, silky tannins, culminating in a long, complex finish where fruity and toasted flavours resonate.

Food and Wine Pairings

This Tuscan wine pairs wonderfully with grilled red meats, slow-cooked game dishes, or Italian specialities such as rich pasta sauces and flavourful pizzas. It also makes an excellent match for a selection of aged hard cheeses.

Serving and Cellaring

With its fine structure, the Villa Antinori Riserva 2023 can be enjoyed now, but will continue to develop in complexity in the cellar, drinking beautifully until around 2033.

The Elegance and Richness of a Great Chianti Classico

The Estate

Founded in 1385 by Giovanni di Piero Antinori, the Marchesi Antinori house is one of the oldest family winemaking businesses in the world. Located at the heart of Tuscany, it skilfully blends deep respect for tradition with a constant spirit of innovation. Today, the 26th generation, represented by president Albiera Antinori and her sisters Allegra and Alessia, leads the estate. The Antinori brand - Villa Antinori, created in 1928, embodies this strong heritage identity, shining internationally as a true ambassador of Italian excellence.

The Vineyard

The grapes come from the historic estates of Tignanello and Badia a Passignano, located in the prestigious Chianti Classico zone. Planted at altitudes between 300 and 400 metres, the vines flourish on limestone alberese soils and schistous galestro marl. This exceptional terroir benefits from an ideal microclimate, created by the meeting of maritime breezes and continental winds, encouraging slow, optimal ripening of the berries.

Winemaking and Ageing

Crafted in the family's spectacular gravity-flow cellar, the Villa Antinori Riserva 2023 undergoes meticulous winemaking. After gentle destemming and crushing, alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, accompanied by gentle macerations. Malolactic fermentation takes place in tanks for the main grape variety, while the other varieties undergo it in barrels. The wine is then aged in large oak foudres and partially in barrels until the end of the spring following the harvest.

Grape Varieties

90% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
