Food and wine pairings
This Verdicchio pairs perfectly with grilled fish, seafood, vegetable risottos, and fresh cheeses. It also elegantly complements pasta dishes with white sauces and roasted poultry.
Serving and cellaring
Vecchie Vigne 2023 is best enjoyed at 10–12°C. A light decanting in a carafe can reveal its full aromatic complexity.
An exceptional Italian white wine by Umani Ronchi
The estate
Created in 1957 by Gino Umani Ronchi in Cupramontana in the Marches, the estate was taken over in 1968 by the Bianchi-Bernetti family. Today managed by Michele Bernetti, son of Massimo Bernetti, Umani Ronchi operates 230 hectares between the Marches and the Abruzzi. Specializing in indigenous grape varieties, notably Verdicchio and Rosso Conero, the estate, ranked among the Italian wine elite, practices organic farming.
The vineyard
"Vecchie Vigne" is a wine from the Marches from an exceptional 4-hectare vineyard. The vines, over 45 years old, thrive at 250–300 meters on east-facing slopes. The terroir features very deep, relatively cool clay-loam soils, offering ideal conditions for expressing the Verdicchio grape variety.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are hand-harvested into crates between late September and early October. After gentle pressing, the first-quality must is quickly cooled and then clarified by static settling. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 16–18°C for 10–15 days, without malolactic fermentation to preserve natural freshness and acidity. Aging continues for 10 months on the lees in concrete tanks, followed by 6 months of bottle aging before release.
Grape variety
100% Verdicchio.
