Description
Tasting Notes and Recommendations for Tenuta Sette Ponti's Oreno 2024
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a very dark, deep ruby red hue, adorned with brilliant violet highlights in its youth. It shows excellent clarity, while thick legs bear witness to its rich texture.
Nose
The bouquet is complex and enveloping, dominated by ripe red and black berries such as blackberry, blackcurrant, plum and black cherry. The whole is elevated by notes of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, cedarwood and tobacco, delicately refreshed by subtle balsamic nuances.
Palate
The attack is full and opulent, revealing a rich texture supported by fine, tight, velvety tannins. Despite its power, the wine retains remarkable energy and freshness, unfolding into a relentlessly persistent finish with hints of cocoa and sweet spices.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs perfectly with structured red meats, such as grilled or roasted beef, lamb, or furred game like venison and wild boar. It also goes wonderfully with dishes in reduced sauces, preparations featuring Mediterranean herbs, mushrooms or truffle, as well as aged hard cheeses such as mature pecorino.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully appreciate the Oreno 2024, it is recommended to serve it at 18°C, or slightly cooler (16-17°C) if the ambient temperature is high. Decanting for one to two hours is advisable in its youth to help open up its aromas. Built to last, this wine has great ageing potential and can be enjoyed until around 2039.
Tenuta Sette Ponti's Masterful Expression of Tuscany
The Estate
Located in the heart of Tuscany, in the Valdarno Superiore, Tenuta Sette Ponti is a historic estate whose official birth as a bottling estate and recognised brand dates back to 1998. Now run by Antonio Moretti Cuseri and his sons Alberto and Amedeo, the estate spans around 330 hectares, of which 55 hectares are under vine. Committed to certified organic viticulture, the family cultivates an exceptional terroir located along the famous Via dei Setteponti. The estate is renowned worldwide for its great blended wines, symbols of Tuscan excellence.
The Vineyard
The vineyard thrives on sun-drenched slopes at an altitude of between 250 and 300 metres, benefiting from an ideal south to south-east exposure within the IGT Toscana appellation. The high-density vines sink their roots into soils rich in clay, interspersed with pebbles and galestro, ensuring optimal drainage. Fully certified organic since 2020, the estate champions biodiversity through beekeeping and green manures. Careful water management and the exclusive use of organic inputs guarantee full respect for the ecosystem.
The Wine
The 2024 vintage celebrates the 25th anniversary of this great Italian wine.
Winemaking and Ageing
Pending specific technical details for the Oreno 2024, the estate's philosophy is based on gentle, extremely well-controlled winemaking. The grapes undergo fermentation and skin maceration for around 25 days under controlled temperature, with frequent pump-overs to gently extract colour and aromas. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, mostly new. An additional year of bottle ageing rounds off the wine's harmony before release.
Grape Varieties
Merlot (45%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%), Cabernet Franc (20%) and Petit Verdot (5%).
