The estate
Founded in the early 19th century in Sancerre by Alphonse Mellot, the family estate has been passed down through generations. The Mellot family, already mentioned in 16th-century archives, enjoyed a solid reputation as winegrowers and merchants. In 1698, César Mellot was even chosen by Louis XIV as a viticultural advisor.
The eldest of each generation inherits the founder’s first name. Even today, Alphonse Mellot father and son continue this family tradition and produce exceptional Sancerre wines from a single 30-hectare vineyard.
The vineyard
The Les Romains cuvée comes from a 1.20-hectare plot, planted in 1951 on soils combining flint and limestone. These old Sancerre vines are cultivated according to organic and biodynamic principles.
Winemaking and aging
The harvest is done by hand, followed by a rigorous sorting and gentle pressing. The aging of this Sancerre blanc lasts 10 months in wooden vats, with an additional bulk aging of 2 to 3 months. Bottling is carried out according to the lunar calendar.
Blend
100% Sauvignon Blanc.
