The estate

The prestigious magazine, Wine Enthusiast, honoured Penfolds as their 2013 New World Winery of the Year, the Penfolds estate had already established itself as an icon of fine Australian wines at the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to Mary Penfold’s unparalleled determination. Indeed, the co-founder of the Penfolds estate put her heart and soul into making exceptional wines. Her lifelong work is reflected in the winery's success in establishing itself as a benchmark in South Australia. When Max Schubert became part of the Penfolds' story in the 1950s, he instilled the elegance of fine Bordeaux wines, that fascinated him greatly, into the estate's wines. Success shortly followed when the cellar master produced his famous Grange wines, which crossed Australian borders in order to win the hearts of wine lovers from all around the world. Today, the talented Peter Gago has taken over this role.

The vineyard

Penfolds’ Saint Henri Shiraz 2018 comes from several Penfolds' vineyards: Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Port Lincoln, Robe, Padthaway, Clare Valley and Adelaide Hills. This wine reflects a range of Australia's best terroirs, but remains deeply influenced by the Penfolds' style.

The vinification and ageing

Following the harvest and the fermentation process, the wine is aged for 12 months in 50+ year old tuns. This is one of the few fine Australian wines not to have been aged in new oak.
