The producer

Located in southwestern Tuscany, the Fattoria le Pupille estate has become an iconic reference of the Maremma Toscana appellation. Nicknamed "The Lady of Morellino", Elisabetta Geppetti has been working, since the age of twenty, with both passion and ambition to make the estate a flagship among the finest Italian wines. A pioneer, she developed the estate's vine population by planting Sangiovese, a typical Tuscan variety, as well as international grape varieties.

The Fattoria Le Pupille estate is renowned for its silky, aromatic wines.

The vineyard

Fattoria Le Pupille watches over 75 hectares of vineyards and 20 hectares which are used for the production of the estate's olive oil.

The wine

Owned by Elisabetta Geppetti, the estate’s iconic wine, Saffredi de Fattoria Le Pupille, stems from her will to produce a great Maremma wine.

Produced under the IGT Maremma Toscana Rosso appellation, Saffredi was first produced from the vineyard of Magliano in 1987, with the valuable help of the oenologist, Giacomo Tachis. The vineyard covers 14 hectares and is located 250 metres above sea level. The soil is composed of sandstone, marl, iron minerals and clay.

Saffredi de Fattoria Le Pupille pays tribute to Elisabetta's mentor, Fredi, who fueled her passion for wine.

Vinification and ageing

Fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Maceration between 30 and 45 days. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (70% of which are new).

The blend

Saffredi 2019 by Fattoria Le Pupille comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (26%) and Petit Verdot (4%).

The tasting

Colour

This wine is a dense ruby red colour.

Nose

Expressive, the nose mixes black fruit fragrances (blackberry) with intense spicy notes (black pepper, cinnamon). Aeration enables aromas of tobacco, freshly ground coffee, sandalwood, rhubarb and balsamic notes to emerge.

Palate

Round and fresh, the palate seduces with its elegant tannins, its good length and its intense fruity notes.

Food and wine pairing

Saffredi 2019 by Fattoria Le Pupille will perfectly complement Chateaubriand with a black truffle sauce.
