Description
A fresh and delicious rosé from Bandol
The estate
The young Alsatian agricultural engineer, Marcel Ott, moved in 1896 with the ambition for the vineyard in the Bandol appellation to produce great wines despite being ravaged by phylloxera.
Today, the OTT family is perpetuating this know-how to produce a range of rosé, red and white Provence wines from three estates: Château de Selle, Clos Mireille and Château Romassan.
Created by René Ott in 1903, the iconic and immediately recognisable Domaines Ott bottle showcases the quality of these great wines.
Domaine Ott joined the Louis Roederer house in 2004.
The vineyard
Acquired in 1956 by the Ott family, Château Romassan is located to the west of Var. The 74-hectare vineyard is planted on very big terroirs with limstone, sandstones, marl and gravel soils which produce elegant, powerful wines with excellent ageing potential.
The sea air from the Gulf of Bandol compensates for the acidity of terroir and the low rainfall in the region.
The wine
An iconic cuvée by Domaines OTT, the Bandol Romassan “Rosé Cœur de Grain” embodies all of the typicality of the Bandol appellation. This great rosé wine is renowned amongst experts for its finesse and elegance.
The vintage
2020 was marked by very mild temperatures and concentrated rainfall from October to March.
The mild winter encouraged budding in early March, followed by an optimal, uniform flowering thanks to good spring conditions. The summer heat allowed the vines to calmly continue their cycle. Harvest began on 12 August to ensure maximum balance and freshness for the vintage.
Blend
The Bandol Romassan “Rosé Cœur de Grain” 2020 is made from a blend of Mourvèdre (60%), Cinsault (20%) and Grenache (20%).
Tasting
Colour
The wine is a bright and beautiful light peach.
Nose
The fresh and fruity nose opens with notes of peach and grapefruit. At aeration, delicious aromas of fruits with white flesh mix with delicate, spicy notes.
Palate
Complex, full-bodied and refined, the palate seduces with its notes of citrus and vine peach. The finish is marked by a touch of acidity, which develops the persistence and indulgence.
