Description
An elegant and refined IGP Côtes Catalanes white wine
The estate
Convinced of the potential of the Fenouillèdes vineyards, located at an altitude at the foot of the Pyrenees, Gérard Gauby, a producer renowned for his great Roussillon wines, founded Domaine Le Soula in 2001 with two British importers (Roy Richards and Mark Walford). The first red and white wines launched from the estate were quickly recognised for their purity and liveliness.
In 2008, Gérald Standley (Château Terrasson) joined this Roussillon estate. He was succeeded by Wendy Wilson who, with a wealth of international winemaking experience, joined the estate in 2014 before taking over as director in 2016.
The vineyard
Domaine Le Soula 2017 is an IGP Côtes Catalanes wine that stems from a vineyard run under Organic Agriculture practices since the estate’s foundation and by biodynamics since 2008. It is located between 350 and 600 metres of altitude. Benefitting from a Mediterranean climate, this terroir rests on soils made up of broken up granite and black schist.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes, harvested by hand, are vinified in the traditional way and pressed directly from whole bunches. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine is matured in 500-litre demi-muids (62%), 2000-litre tuns (25%) and stainless steel vats (13%). No fining. Light filtration before bottling.
Blend
Marsanne and Roussanne (31%)
Vermentino (21%)
Malvoisie de Roussillon (19%)
