A fine wine from the Clos des Lunes estate, the Lune d’Or was born from the will of Olivier Bernard. His ambition was none other than to write the story of a great wine produced in the Bordeaux Blancs Secs appellation in Sauternes.
Lune d'Or is therefore the result of an extremely careful selection and a confidential production that continues to display the class of a great wine vintage after vintage.
Lune d'Or expresses the quintessence of the greatest terroirs by combining the deep gravel soils of Sauternes to give power, the gravel clay-limestone soils of Bommes to provide freshness, and the red clay soils of Barsac to contribute finesse and elegance.
Because the core of Clos des Lunes is based on the identity of Sémillon, the Lune d'Or 2017 pays tribute to it in a blend that is largely dominated by it (70%) and completed with Sauvignon Blanc (30%).
Although the 2017 vintage will be remembered for the tragic frost that hit the Bordeaux vineyards, the quality was not affected and was confirmed during the harvest from August 29, 2017 to September 19, 2017. The fruit was harvested at full ripeness and had an excellent balance between sugar and acidity, as well as a great aromatic freshness.
As a rare and exceptional wine, the Lune d’Or 2017 presents a delicate crystal, pale yellow colour highlighted with green highlights. Beautifully expressive, the aromatic bouquet reveals complexity that bursts with the aromatic purity of the fruit. The Sauvignon Blanc reveals itself through its fresh citric notes and white-fleshed fruit while the personality of the Sémillon emerges through delicate floral notes reminiscent of acacia and hawthorn. The dense mouthfeel fills the palate with flavours that are perfectly balanced with a beautiful acidity and delicate fleshiness of the fruit, which then extends to give a mineral freshness from saline notes. Complex, precise, and a model of elegance and purity, the Lune d'Or 2017 presents itself as the epitome as a fine dry white wine.
