Robert Parker

Yohan Castaing

Notes of boxwood, flowers, pear and white peach mingled with a lovely reduction preface the 2022 Lune d'Argent, a moderately weighted, round and satiny palate, with plenty of charm and a long, ethereal and enticing finish. This is a straightforward, elegantly crafted white wine.

This fresh version offers mirabelle plum, quinine and honeysuckle notes that stay bright and nicely defined through the energetic, salted butter–tinged finish. Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now through 2026. 15,000 cases made.

Decanter

Cool and crisp, clean and nicely weighted on the palate with some creamy and chalky lemon, pear and apricot. An easy-drinking style with nuance and freshness. Lacks a touch of weight and zing, but there’s appealing bitter lemon rind with apricot and peach flavours. Feels clean.

The 2022 Lune d'Argent is laced with hints of citrus peel, sage, mint, dried flowers, chalk and herbs. A touch of reduction adds freshness and verve.

Sweet, juicy pineapples, mango, and honeysuckle aromatics pop as soon as the wine hits the glass. The palate, is fruity, sweet, and creamy, with more of those pure, pineapple notes in the honey-touched finish. Drink from 2025-2032.

The 2022 Clos Des Lunes Lune D’Argent Blanc is clean, bright, and pure, with notes of lemon curd, white flowers, and crushed stone. Vibrant, focused, and elegant on the palate, it has impressive precision and a great finish, all making for an outstanding, incredibly satisfying white. Brought up in a mix of stainless steel and oak, drink bottles over the coming 5-7 years.

Kick of gunsmoke reduction on the first nose, honeysuckle and wax edge on the palate, this is Sémillon dominant in character as well as in the blend, ripe but maintains grip. Lime blossom on the finish gives lift, as does some fennel bitterness. A Sémillon dominant white from the team at Domaine de Chevalier, vines located in Sauternes.

A dazzling nose, like a starry sky, with notes of lemon and fennel. On the palate, the wine is pure and fluid.

Fruity nuances paired with notes of tobacco leaves. With good density—thanks to the Sémillon—the wine is flavoursome and elegant. It stands out for the persistence of its finish.

The nose is expressive, generous and tangy, with a lovely balance between stone-fruit aromas and ripe citrus. It reveals notes of white peach, ripe apricot and fresh pear (in the background), alongside ripe yellow lemon and candied lemon peel. After aeration, a hint of green apple and a touch of fresh quince emerge, along with white flowers (acacia, linden, a hint of chamomile), lemon yoghurt and ripe grapefruit with a fine bitterness. The palate is generous, round and fruity, with a good grapefruit bitterness, yellow lemon peel and fresh zest, plus a touch of blood orange. There are also notes of yellow peach and apricot, white flowers (acacia, linden, chamomile), and a subtle lactic hint of butter and vanilla. Lovely roundness and generosity; the acidity is supple yet pleasant and fairly fresh, and the texture is oily and enveloping.

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

An intense nose with ripe fruit and, for the first time, a floral edge. The palate is melting, airy and subtly rich, developing into a very fine length with a delicate, suave finish. Blend: 70% sémillon, 30% sauvignon. Alcohol: 13.5% - pH: 3.3.

Description

A Bordeaux dry white wine that delights with precision and freshness

The estate

Clos des Lunes tells the story of an ambitious venture that began in 2011 with an observation and a challenge: to make a legendary dry white wine on the exceptional Sauternes terroir. This is the challenge taken up with passion and energy by the emblematic Olivier Bernard and his family, owners of Domaine de Chevalier in Léognan.

The vineyard

The Clos des Lunes is the reference for Bordeaux Dry White wines on a terroir for sweet wines. The Clos des Lunes watches over a 60-hectare vineyard in the hilly terrain of Sauternes. The vines are 35 years old on average and are planted on a mosaic of soils, each contributing to the signature of the estate's wines. While the deep gravel of Sauternes gives the power, the freshness characterising the gravel soils on a clay-limestone substrate of Bommes is combined with the finesse and elegance of the red soils of Barsac.

Winemaking and ageing

Manual harvest in crates by successive selections. Slow pneumatic pressing. No destemming or maceration. Gravity settling in a cold room and regular stirring of the lees. The wine is aged for 6 months in barrels (25%) and vats (75%).

Blend

Sémillon (70%)
Sauvignon (30%).
