Description
A refined and richly aromatic Pauillac Second Wine
The estate
The Libéral family has owned Château Haut-Bages Libéral since the beginning of the 18th century. Over the years, these fine connoisseurs have amassed the finest terroirs in Pauillac. This Pauillac Grand Cru has belonged to the Villars family since 1983, who have restored Château Haut-Bages Libéral to its former glory by undertaking a complete overhaul of the winemaking facilities and shifting the management of the vineyard to sustainable viticultural practices.
The vineyard
Château Haut-Bages Libéral has been certified as an organic winegrower since 2019 and is currently in the process of converting to biodynamic viticulture. The 30 hectares of vines are cultivated on Günzian gravel, resting upon clay-limestone substrate.
The wine
La Chapelle de Haut-Bages 2018 is the Second Wine of Château Haut-Bages Libéral. This wine is made from a vineyard composed of clay-limestone Graves and located around the estate, as well as a vineyard on the Bages plateau characterised by its deep gravel.
Vinification and ageing
This wine is aged for 6 months in new barrels (20%), second-fill barrels (20%), third-fill barrels (20%) and in ovoid vats (40%).
The blend
Chapelle de Haut-Bages 2018 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Merlot (30%).
