Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for L'Esprit Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru 2021 by Pierre Péters
Tasting
Appearance
The colour is a bright, luminous pale yellow, with subtle green highlights. It is distinguished by an exceptionally fine effervescence and a particularly persistent bead of bubbles.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with delicate floral notes of hawthorn, acacia and chamomile, intimately interwoven with citrus scents such as preserved lemon. With aeration, it reveals wonderful complexity, with touches of apricot, ginger and toasted hazelnut, along with a deep chalky minerality.
Palate
The attack is both fresh and powerful, immediately conveying a sense of great elegance. The palate unfolds flavours of peach, mandarin and toasted bread. The finish, remarkable for its length, stretches out on notes of candied citrus, underscored by a saline, thirst-quenching minerality.
Food and wine pairing
This sparkling white wine from France is ideally enjoyed as an aperitif. It also pairs wonderfully with seafood, a white fish carpaccio with citrus, delicate poultry or hard pressed cooked cheeses such as a young Comté.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, we recommend serving L'Esprit Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru 2021 at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. This wine can be enjoyed upon release, but will continue to evolve favourably until around 2034.
A Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne true to the terroir of the Côte des Blancs
The estate
While the family's winegrowing history began in 1858, the Champagne house truly took shape in 1929 under the impetus of Camille Péters, before adopting the name Pierre Péters in 1946. Located in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, this family estate has specialised in the production of Blanc de Blancs since 1919. Today, Rodolphe Péters runs this estate of approximately 19 hectares. He perpetuates the expertise of his ancestors, combining tradition and technical precision to reveal the unique identity of the chalky terroirs.
The vineyard
The grapes come from four villages classified as Grand Cru in Champagne: Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant. The vines, around thirty years old, thrive on a limestone plateau with terraces facing east and south-east. This singular terroir, resting on very pure chalk, benefits from marked temperature variations and optimal natural drainage. Cultivation is mainly manual, guided by a sustainable, environmentally respectful approach.
The vintage
The 2021 vintage proved delicate and demanding in terms of weather. The growing cycle was notably marked by difficult climatic conditions, including episodes of frost and strong disease pressure, requiring constant attention in the vineyard.
Vinification and ageing
After hand harvesting, the whole bunches undergo slow, fractionated pressing to isolate the purest juices. Fermentations take place in small temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, separated by parcel. L'Esprit Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru 2021 is then aged on its lees for around three years in the estate's cellars, before undergoing a late disgorgement in November 2025.
