Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Grand Vintage 2002 by Moët & Chandon

Tasting

Appearance
The robe displays a deep gold with golden yellow highlights.

Nose
The nose, complex and mature, blends fruity aromas (pear, citrus, mirabelle plum, nectarine) with toasted and warm notes (rusk, mocha, nougatine, speculoos, grilled chestnut, cigar), enhanced by hints of garrigue and honey.

Palate
On the palate, the attack is dense, with a thick texture reminiscent of candied fruits and nougatine. The mouth-watering and smooth finish reveals touches of liquorice and pepper.

The structure and complexity of a great vintage champagne

The estate

The Champagne Moët & Chandon House was founded in 1743 by Claude Moët, a visionary wine merchant, who quickly established it as a benchmark among European courts. A few years later, his grandson, Jean-Rémy Moët, expanded the international reputation of the House.

Jean-Rémy Moët notably created the House's emblematic cuvée, the Moët Imperial, in honour of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, who visited the estate on several occasions and is said to have invented, with his troops, the gesture of sabring bottles of Moët & Chandon champagne to celebrate a victory.

Owned by the LVMH group since 1987, the House crafts, from a rigorous selection of Champagne terroirs, distinctive cuvées renowned beyond borders for their quality and seductive personality.

The wine

Produced only in the greatest years in Champagne, the Grand Vintage is a free and personal interpretation of an exceptional year by the Cellar Master of Moët & Chandon.

Vinification and ageing

This 2002 vintage champagne benefits from 15 years of maturation in the cellars as well as a minimum of 6 months of ageing after disgorgement. This Extra-Brut champagne is dosed at 5.5 g/litre.
