Wine Spectator

Alison Napjus

Suave but full-bodied, showing its Chardonnay character in the green-gold color, lush texture and ripe, integrated fruit flavors. Drink now. 7,000 cases made.

Decanter

Delicate and racy, with sweet lime, white pear and green almond aromas up front, while a lemon madeleine richness is tucked into the fluffy, gentle mousse. Narrow, pure yet not austere in style, it’s a zesty and ultimately refreshing, reductively styled blanc de blancs. From 12 crus of Chardonnay, with 30% reserve wine added.

Vinous

Stephen Tanzer

Pale, green-tinged color. Citrus peel, nuts and chalk on the nose. Rich, tactile and dry, with good ripeness and breadth. This started out citric and minerally but, like the Souverain Brut, showed some intrusive older notes of earth, nuts and toffee with time in the glass. The acids still need a bit of time to harmonize.

From 12 crus within Champagne, the NV Champagne Blanc De Blancs Brut is based on the 2017 vintage and includes 30–50% reserve wines in the blend. It shows a bright yellow/golden hue and offers ripe aromas of pineapple, preserved citrus, yellow flowers, and fresh bread. Inviting on the palate, with a pillowing mousse, it stays focused, with a broad-shouldered feel and a clean, silky-textured finish. It’s ready to enjoy now and should hold up well over the next 5–6 years.

La RVF

A lovely effervescence, with a palate that feels a bit tight and not very complex. The Chardonnay is dull. On the palate, the mousse is intrusive and lacks finesse. The breadth is moderate and the overall impression falls short of the hoped-for finesse.

The Champagne has a fine maturity, the bright citrus fruit softened into a touch of toast. This is the perfect moment to drink this wine.

Description

A fine and elegant Blanc de Blancs by Henriot

The producer

Founded in 1808, the Henriot Champagne House has been growing Chardonnay grapes, from the Côte des Blancs, with passion, high and exacting standards for 8 generations. This noble grape variety will later become the defining style of each of the Henriot vintages.

Henriot champagne, greatly appreciated by the Dutch Court, would later become a leading brand among European aristocracy.

Henriot champagnes stand out due to their finesse, their exceptional elegance, their complexity and their radiant richness, thanks to a specific ageing period and a quantity of reserve wines for each cuvée.

The vineyard

Comprising a 35-hectare vineyard, the champagnes by the Henriot Champagne House are partly produced from the most beautiful Premiers and Grands Crus terroirs of the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims.

The blend

The emblematic champagne by the Henriot Champagne House, this Blanc de Blancs mainly comprises Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs and from the crus of over 7 neighbouring villages.

This cuvée is composed of 30% reserve wines and its dosage is less than 10g/l.

After bottling, this cuvée is kept for 3 to 5 years in the cellars of the Henriot Champagne House.

Henriot’s Blanc de Blanc: Characteristics and tasting tips

The tasting

Colour

Pale gold in colour, the colour of this champagne is sparkling with subtle green highlights. The beautiful effervescence offers fine and regular bubbles.

Nose

The nose is concentrated and expressive. Intense floral (honeysuckle, orange blossom and lime blossom) and fruity aromas blend harmoniously with spicy and brioche notes.

Palate

The palate is ample with a lively attack and reveals aromas of slightly toasted brioche mixed with notes of quince paste and acacia honey. Gourmet and persistent, the finish has a slight mentholated note.

Food and wine pairing

This Blanc de Blancs champagne by Henriot will perfectly express all its finesse and its character as an aperitif. This champagne will also complement (blue lobster from Brittany with lemongrass), fish (sole from a small boat with semi-salted butter) and also with meat (confit of rabbit with wild thyme and mirabelle plums, supreme of farm poultry stuffed with foie gras, grilled potatoes).

Service

For an optimal tasting experience, the recommended serving temperature is 8°C

Cellaring

Enjoy now, this Champagne Blanc de Blancs can be kept in the cellar for 6 to 10 years in order to develop its full complexity.
