Wine Spectator

Alison Napjus

A statuesque Champagne, with creamy viscosity to the mousse as it wraps around a frame of chiseled acidity. Crème de cassis, grilled macadamia nut, warm fig, tangerine peel, pastry cream and candied ginger notes are a rich and finely detailed weave of flavors that glides across the palate. A beauty, echoing fruit, spice and pastry elements, with an underlying streak of salinity on the long, long finish. Drink now through 2048.

Antonio Galloni

The 2008 Dom Pérignon P2 is another sublime Champagne from Dom Pérignon. Long lees-aging on the cork softened the edges that the original 2008 release showed as a young Champagne. The two 2008s (original release and P2) paint two very different but equally compelling potraits of the vintage. The P2 possesses notable textural density and a level of mid-palate intensity that the 2008 does not offer. The P2 is not necessarily better than the original release, but it is quite contrasting in style. It may be that in a very high-quality vintage, extended time in bottle does not add as much as it does in slightly lesser years.

Description

Tasting tips for the P2 2008 from Dom Pérignon

Tasting

This new edition stands out at tasting for its precise acidic structure, its creamy texture, and its generous, wide-reaching structure. Candied lemon, bergamot, white peach, cocoa, and roasted coffee are just some of the aromas carried by a silky freshness, subtly edged with a hint of iodine.

Serving and cellaring

Serve between 10 and 12 °C.

The vibrancy and structure of an exceptional vintage champagne from Dom Pérignon

The estate

The Maison de Champagne Dom Pérignon pays tribute to Dom Pierre Pérignon, the famous monk of the Abbey of Hautvillers, who was appointed cellar master in 1668. For almost fifty years, he devoted himself passionately to creating what he called “the best wine in the world.” Today, the House continues this pursuit of excellence and harmony, guided by Vincent Chaperon, Chef de Caves since 2019.

The vineyard

Dom Pérignon is produced exclusively from grapes from the finest terroirs of the Champagne. The vines are tended with the utmost care and farmed sustainably, guaranteeing exemplary grape quality.

The vintage

While spring and summer are marked by relative coolness and overcast weather, the strong sunshine in September and persistent north / northeast winds favor beautiful ripening of the berries.

Grape varieties

Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
