Description
A Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs where freshness and elegance are matched only by finesse and minerality
The estate
After the First World War, “poilu” Manuel De Sousa, a member of the Portuguese Expeditionary Corps, left his homeland to settle in France in Avize. Struck down by illness before reaching the age of thirty, this hard-working man left behind a wife and children. Fortunately, a few years later, his son Antoine married Zoémie Bonville, the daughter of a winegrower, and from their union was born the Champagne De Sousa House. For three generations now, the ongoing pursuit of excellence and respect for nature and the environment have been at the heart of the estate. Since 1986, Erick De Sousa has been at the helm of the family-run Champagne house, determined to continue the work of his predecessors while ensuring the values of passion and tradition are passed down from generation to generation.
The vineyard
This Extra Brut Réserve Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs cuvée comes from the great terroirs of Champagne located on the Côte des Blancs (Cramant, Avize, Oger, Mesnil sur Oger, and Chouilly). Old vines over 43 years old are deeply rooted in chalky soil. The vineyard is farmed using organic and biodynamic viticulture.
Winemaking and aging
Following manual harvesting, the grapes used for this champagne Blanc de Blancs undergo vinification in vats.
Blend
Chardonnay (100%).
