Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Largillier Brut Nature Non-Vintage from Champagne Coessens
Tasting
Nose
The nose captivates with its great purity, carried by notes of flint, chalk and fresh citrus that clearly reveal the imprint of the limestone soil from which this champagne originates.
Palate
The palate is sleek and elegant, driven by an intense minerality that extends into a long, saline finish, in a style that is both precise and refined.
Food and wine pairings
This champagne is a delight as an aperitif, the ideal moment to appreciate the purity of its aromatic profile. It also pairs beautifully with fish, whose delicacy it enhances through its saline tension.
Other characteristics
This brut nature champagne receives no dosage, resulting in an extremely low level of residual sugar, generally below 3 grams per litre. This complete absence of liqueur d'expédition highlights the purity of the fruit and the direct expression of the terroir.
Champagne Coessens: a mineral expression of the Largillier monopole in the Côte des Bar
The estate
Champagne Coessens is a grower house founded in 2006 by Jérôme Coessens in Ville-sur-Arce, in the Côte des Bar, within the Champagne appellation. The estate draws on a 6.5-hectare family vineyard, at the heart of which lies the Largillier lieu-dit, a 3.36-hectare monopole planted exclusively with Pinot Noir that forms the core of its production. Still run by Jérôme Coessens, the house stands out for dividing this terroir into several sub-plots and for its Kimmeridgian marl and limestone soils, similar to those of Chablis.
The vineyard
The Largillier Brut Nature Non-Vintage comes from the Largillier lieu-dit, located in Ville-sur-Arce, in the Côte des Bar, within the Champagne appellation. This 3.36-hectare monopole, planted solely with Pinot Noir, lies on Kimmeridgian marl and limestone soils whose structure has been compared to that of the finest terroirs of Chablis. More specifically, the cuvée comes from the "Mineral" sub-plot, the most calcareous part of Largillier, which faces southwest and where the vines are on average between 35 and 40 years old.
Vinification and ageing
The Largillier Brut Nature Non-Vintage is made as a blanc de noirs, with the Pinot Noir grapes pressed without maceration to preserve a clear juice. After the second fermentation in the bottle, the wine receives no dosage at disgorgement, in keeping with the brut nature style that defines this cuvée.
Grape variety
This champagne is made from 100% Pinot Noir, the only grape variety planted on the Largillier lieu-dit.
