Tasting
Appearance
Beautiful pale gold color revealing delicate effervescence.
Nose
On the nose, this champagne reveals its full aromatic complexity with notes of pastries, almond and hazelnut biscuit, and speculoos. As it opens up, hints of rooibos, truffle, and roasted hazelnut emerge.
Palate
A generous and lively attack precedes a palate with flavors of strawberry, candied citrus peel, and mirabelle tart. The finish delights with its persistence and freshness.
A lively vintage champagne with a broad aromatic palette
The estate
Since its founding in 1818 by Elisabeth Salmon and Nicolas-François Billecart, the Champagne Billecart-Salmon House has remained independent, preserving for seven generations its complete expertise and commitment to the quality of its cuvées.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Maison Billecart-Salmon stretches from the Côte des Blancs to the Montagne de Reims over nearly 100 hectares. The vines are cultivated and tended in the traditional way to get as close as possible to an authentic fruit and to reflect the quality of the Champagne terroir.
The wine
Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart was created in 1964 as a tribute to the House’s founder. This 1998 vintage champagne is produced from a rigorous selection of 79% Grands crus and 21% Premiers crus, with partial vinification in oak barrels (15%).
Vinification and aging
10 years aging on lees.
Blend
60% Pinot Noir from the Premiers and Grands crus of the Montagne de Reims and the Grande Vallée de la Marne, along with 40% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs.
