Located in the heart of southern Tuscany, Altesino is an estate whose exceptional terroir was designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2004.
With its high regard for the vines and the surrounding nature, this estate excels in the production of fine Brunello di Montalcino DOCG wines, one of the main appellations in Italy. A forerunner, the Altesino estate introduced two major innovations within the appellation, the concept of "cru" in 1975 and barrel vinification in 1979.
Paying close attention to the terroir, rigour and diligence both in the vineyard and during vinification are the keystones of this estate. Spread over 80 hectares, 44 of which are vineyards, the estate is renowned for its high quality wines.
Produced since 1975, this Montosoli wine by Altesino is made from vineyards located on the eponymous hill, perched at 320 metres above sea level.
The vinification and ageing
Following a minimum of 2 years' ageing in oak barrels, the meticulous production of this Montosoli 2017 wine by Altesino is followed by at least 4 months' bottle ageing before release.
This wine showcases a beautiful ruby red when young, but evolves into a brick-red colour with age.
Rich and expressive, the nose combines delicious floral and fruity (blackberry) fragrances with peppery (pink pepper) and balsamic notes.
Full and generous, the palate reveals a beautiful tannic structure and a persistent and aromatic finish.
Food and wine pairing
Altesino's 2017 Montosoli will complement red meats, roasts, game and mature cheeses.
For an optimal tasting experience, serve at 18-20°C.
