Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Chaumes" Domaine 2023 from Méo-Camuzet
Tasting notes
Colour
An attractive ruby-red colour.
Nose
The bouquet is complex, dominated by fresh blackcurrant aromas intertwined with notes of roasted coffee, nutmeg and subtle touches of pepper.
Palate
The attack reveals a structure combining power and delicacy. The silky, fresh texture is supported by supple tannins that carry flavours of blackcurrant and mocha. A mineral thread underlines the whole before stretching into a persistent, balanced finish.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs ideally with game meats such as wild boar or venison, as well as with fine-quality meats served with delicate sauces. It also elevates mushroom-based dishes, such as a porcini risotto, and goes perfectly with mature cheeses of character.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, we recommend serving this Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Chaumes" Domaine 2023 at a temperature between 15 and 17°C. This wine can be enjoyed in its youth, but it has the structure needed to age in the cellar until around 2033.
The Elegance and Finesse of a Premier Cru from Vosne-Romanée
The estate
In Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet takes its name from Étienne Camuzet, who acquired vines in Clos de Vougeot in 1920. In 1959, Jean Méo took over the running of the estate and continued its story. The first vintage under the Méo-Camuzet label was produced in 1983. Today, the estate cultivates prestigious climats of the Côte de Nuits, including Richebourg, Échézeaux and Cros Parantoux. Its Pinot Noirs are elegant and profound, and express all the finesse of the Burgundy terroir.
The vineyard
The climat "Les Chaumes" is a Premier Cru strategically located at the southern end of the Vosne-Romanée appellation, at an altitude of 250 metres. The estate cultivates approximately two hectares of vines there, planted in the 1950s and 1970s. Facing east and south-east, this terroir benefits from optimal sunshine. The soils, composed of limestone marl and clay, are moderately deep and stony, offering excellent drainage, which is essential for the vines to thrive.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage was marked by variable weather conditions. The harvest period, in mid-September, saw particularly intense heat. This phase was followed by a stormy spell at the end of September, bringing significant rainfall. This combination of conditions produced berries with beautiful concentration while preserving a natural freshness.
Vinification and ageing
The estate's philosophy is based on minimal intervention. After hand harvesting and rigorous sorting, the berries undergo a cold maceration lasting a few days. Fermentation starts naturally with indigenous yeasts, accompanied by gentle pump-overs and then punch-downs towards the end of the process. The Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Chaumes" Domaine 2023 is aged in oak barrels (60 to 70% of which are new) for 15 to 18 months. Finally, bottling is carried out by gravity, without filtration or fining.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
