Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Vosne-Romanee 1er cru "Aux Brûlées" 2023 Méo-Camuzet
Tasting
Appearance
This red wine from France reveals a beautiful saturation, with a deep and particularly attractive colour.
Nose
The bouquet opens with a delicate expression of small red fruits, marked by purity and lightness. Subtle woody notes and touches of spice enrich this elegant aromatic tapestry.
Palate
The attack is vigorous and straight, revealing lovely tension and remarkable intensity. The ripeness of the fruit is perfectly balanced by refreshing tannic grip and superb acidity. The long, energetic finish stands out for its vibrant minerality and fine herbaceous nuances.
Food and Wine Pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with full-flavoured meats with a fibrous texture, such as slow-roasted lamb or oven-roasted game birds. It will also elevate a couscous with bold spices, delicately pan-fried foie gras, venison dishes in sauce, or intense cheeses such as Époisses, Langres or Cîteaux.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully appreciate the Vosne-Romanee 1er cru "Aux Brûlées" 2023, decanting is recommended while it is young. It is best served at a temperature of around 17°C. This wine offers magnificent ageing potential, with an optimal drinking window from 2028 to 2035, and it can evolve in the cellar until around 2048 to reach its peak.
The Elegance and Minerality of a Great Wine from Vosne-Romanée
The Estate
In Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet takes its name from Étienne Camuzet, who acquired vines in Clos de Vougeot in 1920. In 1959, Jean Méo took over the running of the estate and continued its story. The first vintage under the Méo-Camuzet label was produced in 1983. Today, the estate cultivates prestigious climats of the Côte de Nuits, including Richebourg, Échézeaux and Cros Parantoux. Its Pinot Noirs are elegant and profound, and express all the finesse of the Burgundy terroir.
The Vineyard
The climat "Aux Brûlées" enjoys an exceptional position in Vosne-Romanée, at the foot of the Richebourg grand cru. This terroir is characterised by very shallow soils, where the limestone bedrock lies just beneath a thin layer of topsoil, complemented by clay-rich marls in the lower parts. Facing east to west and exposed to the cool air currents from the neighbouring combe, the vines, planted in the 1930s, produce small, highly concentrated berries that offer remarkable natural balance.
The Vintage
The year 2023 began with a mild winter, followed by a rainy spring and flowering under gentle temperatures. The summer proved more capricious, with rainfall in early July during fruit set, before giving way to episodes of intense heatwave right up to the September harvest. These extreme weather conditions required rigorous work in the vineyards, notably green harvesting, to manage a generous crop and ensure optimal quality.
Winemaking and Ageing
After hand harvesting and meticulous sorting, the berries of the Vosne-Romanee 1er cru "Aux Brûlées" 2023 are fully destemmed. A cold maceration of a few days precedes fermentation, punctuated by regular pumping over and punching down. Ageing takes place over approximately seventeen months in oak barrels from the forests of Tronçais and Bertranges, with 30% new oak. The wine is bottled by gravity, without any filtration.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
