James Suckling

Beautiful clarity with layers of roses, pink peppercorns, sandalwood and cherry stones, interlaced with hints of chocolate and walnuts. It’s medium-bodied, in line with the vintage, with sleek and tight-grained tannins. Refined Clos Vougeot. Try from 2024.

Jancis Robinson

Jancis Robinson

Cask sample. Pale to mid garnet. Firm, well-integrated nose. Sweet start and quite substantial. I think this would show quite well in a blind tasting with its Clos de Vougeot peers. A trace of dry tannin on the end but that promises well for the future. Firm with a little sour-cherry flavour but quite majestic build – even if it’s not nearly as alluring as the Clos St-Jacques! Description

A Clos Vougeot wine that harmoniously blends complexity and refinement

The estate

Established since 1859, Maison Louis Jadot is a true benchmark in Burgundy. Its adventure began with the acquisition of a plot of land in 1826. Its trading activity led to its swift international recognition. Today and since 1992, the house is managed by Pierre-Henry Gagey and still ensures that Burgundy wines remain accessible to those who love high-quality wines.

At the head of Maison Louis Jadot since 1992, Pierre-Henry Gagey entrusted his position to Thomas Seiter (Bouchard Père et Fils) and role of General Manager to his son Thibault Gagey in September 2022.

The vineyard

This Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot 2021 by Louis Jadot is a Clos Vougeot wine, an emblematic 50-hectare terroir located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. As the second owner of the 88 hectares of this Clos, Maison Louis Jadot reigns over an exceptional vineyard of nearly 0.5 hectares, facing east and resting on clay-limestone soil.

The vintage

2021 is a year marked by severe frost at the beginning of April and unstable weather conditions throughout the year. Despite a below-average harvest, the quality is reflected through the floral and well-balanced white wines as well as vibrant, full and aromatic red wines.

Vinification and ageing

Manual harvest followed by a rigorous sorting before destemming. Maceration in open wooden and stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks. Fermentation accompanied by 2 daily punchings of the cap. Aged for 18 months in oak barrels from the estate's cooperage (1/3 new).

The blend

Pinot Noir (100%).
