Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Domaine des Émois 2024 by Joseph Mellot
Tasting Notes
Appearance
Visually, this wine displays a bright pale gold colour, enhanced by delicate green hues typical of its youth.
Nose
Fresh and beautifully intense, the aromatic bouquet blends white peach, citrus fruits and exotic fruits. Subtle notes of white flowers and blackcurrant bud intertwine with an elegant mineral touch.
Palate
The attack is elegant, opening onto a fluid and taut texture. Medium-bodied, the palate offers a perfect balance between refreshing acidity, great aromatic complexity and a clear mineral backbone. The finish stands out for its length and finesse.
Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with a seafood platter, grilled white fish or a veal blanquette. It also goes perfectly with tarragon poultry, vegetarian salads and local goat cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully enjoy this 2024 vintage, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 8 and 10°C. This wine can be enjoyed now, but it will continue to evolve favourably in the cellar until at least 2029.
The Pure and Mineral Expression of a White Sancerre
The Estate
Although the family's winemaking history dates back to 1513, the modern Joseph Mellot estate was officially established in 1969 in Sancerre. Located at the heart of the Centre-Val de Loire region, this historic property is now run by Catherine Corbeau-Mellot. A pioneer in wine tourism, the house stands out as the only owner present across all eight appellations of the region. Deeply committed to environmental preservation, the estate places great importance on showcasing its terroirs through sustainable practices and rigorous certifications.
The Vineyard
This cuvée comes from a four-hectare plot located in the hamlet of Amigny, at the heart of the Sancerre appellation. The vines, around twenty years old, thrive on a specific "caillottes" terroir, made up of clay-limestone soils dotted with small pebbles. This vineyard is cultivated according to organic farming principles, with certification obtained in 2015. Soil maintenance is carried out mechanically, with controlled grass cover and a total ban on synthetic products, thereby ensuring respect for biodiversity.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes are harvested mechanically during the coolest hours to preserve the freshness of the berries. In the cellar, direct pressing is carried out using a pneumatic press, followed by a rigorous selection of the juices and cold settling. Fermentation then takes place at low temperature in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The ageing of this white Sancerre continues exclusively in stainless steel tanks, with no contact with wood, in order to preserve the liveliness and aromatic purity of the grape variety.
